Well, summer has finally made it to England. It's been so hot here that we've nearly mistaken it for southern Spain of late, but wow have we been enjoying it. No one quite knows how long this great weather will last, so we've been tying to enjoy every single moment of it. We've got a little wading pool in the garden for Chris to play in and cool off, and Sarah has finished her project making us a new seating area back there. It's been great to be able to enjoy the garden the way we have, and it's all down to the wonderful work that Sarah's done on it! We also have some really nice flowers growing all around the flat; lovely pink roses and an Asiatic Lily ... all I can say is that summer is awesome in London! We had a bit of an adventure three weekends ago, as the Imrie family headed to Covent Garden to visit the London Transport museum. We braved the heat on the underground and the stifling, windless courtyard of Covent Garden, and were rewarded with a great day - especially for Chris. The first good thing to happen to us, was that on entry, we found out that for the normal price of admission, Sarah and I were able to convert our day passes into annual passes, so we can now go back any time we like. And seeing how much Chris liked it, a return trip is a real possibility. Chris got to get up close and personal with his favourite bit of London Transport - buses! - and just about everything else that moves people around this vast city. We saw old steam trains that used to run on the Underground, classic trams, boats from the Thames, mid-twentieth century Routemaster buses and more. He was super excited about being able to just touch the wheels on the buses and trams, but then he got to drive a modern red London bus, a modern Tube train on the Jubilee line, a black cab, and a Thames Clipper! What a lucky boy! He was a bit upset when it was time to leave, but we'll go back. As disappointed as he was to have to leave the museum, he fell asleep pretty quickly after exiting, so Sarah and I went to a nearby pub and cooled off with a drink and an ice cream. It was just what we needed, and gave us just that little bit of energy we needed to keep out. It turned out be lucky for Chris too, because when we left we got to see one of the brand new Routemasters that are back on London's roads! After a quick stop into M&M World, we headed home. The past two weeks since then have been spent, really, just dealing with the sun and heat. Overnight lows around 23 degrees have made it quite a challenge to fall asleep, and Rosie hasn't been having walks during the day time. We've enjoyed a number of BBQs, and are headed out to the common tomorrow. I played golf a week back and by the time we got around and were teeing off on 17, I had lost any ability to care about my score, and just wanted to reach the air conditioned clubhouse. Today is a bit cooler than average, so a nice break. I went for cycle this morning as there's only two months to go until my ride, and I am hoping for similar conditions a few nights this week as well. I would like to head out for a few lengthy rides with Perry to get my endurance up. As I said, tomorrow we're headed to the Common nearby and is when we'll celebrate Chris's 2nd birthday. We're just going to have a little day with another couple, Dan & Jess, and their daughter Dorothy who is only two weeks older than Chris. It should be a treat! A very big congratulations go out to the Friesen family, who took possession of their new house in Vernon last weekend! It has been a long road to get here, living in two separate cities for months; but now all that is behind you and you can enjoy being an entire family unit once again.
We are very jealous of just how near to the Lake you are and it brings back a ton of memories of summer vacations spent up there. I'm reminiscing so much now! Hey Kim & Ray, do you want to house swap for a while next summer?! Congrats again! A very big congratulations to Derek & Kim, and a welcome to Mason Carter Thornton, who arrived in this world on June 29! We're thrilled for everyone in the Thornton family and wish you all the best!
