First up, in one corner we have William Imrie; and in the other we have his two tired parents. The arena? The bed. Gametime? Almost immediately after Chris goes to bed, when Sarah and I ready to hang 'em up and lie our weary heads down - and Will is ready to open up and exercise his lungs and empty his bowels.
We are doing pretty well, to be honest. The little pooper is only a month old, so we can't expect much from him in terms of sleeping on a set schedule or making it all the way through the night yet. But we're ready and waiting for these things to happen and will be as excited as every parent before us was, when the kid learns that sleeping is a great thing and a wonderful gift to give to his parents. I have a feeling that the victor in this competition is going to be the silent third player, Time.
I've also been lucky over the past short while to have taken another week off work in an effort to use my vacation days before they expire in March. So I took another 5 days while Doug & Debby were cruising around the Canary Islands. It was a wonderful week, during which the Imrie's, now four, managed to settle into some sort of semblance of daytime routine and new responsibilities and compromises were worked out between all the members. Chris has adjusted pretty well to his new brother being here, but he still wants the undivided attention of any parent he chooses at any given moment, so his latest learning experience is one with patience. I got to take Chris to Tumble Tots for a third time, and that was nice. We got to sit down during the day and relax and not worry about work or anything, and just be. I also got to monopolize a bit of our entertainment for the week, and I had a lot of Olympics on.
And this brings us to our second match. A contest between two juggernauts of the sport, a true tilt of epic proportions; a rematch we all wanted to have happen, and yet we are all a little bit nervous at the unknown outcome. In one corner it's the USA, and in the other it's Canada, in the men's hockey semi-finals!!!! Awesome! It's the Gold medal game from Vancouver 2010 all over again, and I expect that I will be on the edge of my seat for the entire match! I can't wait for Friday!
In other news, we now say goodbye to Doug & Debby after a great visit. We wish them a safe journey home, and they know they'll be missed. Chris said exactly that today when he told his Granny, "When you go home I will miss you Granny, and I will be sad." What a cutie.
But Chris is in a new treat in a few months time ... his Nana & Pops are coming to visit! We're now looking forward to hosting Bruce & Gayle and having them meet William! Hooray!
